When you’re looking for a window cleaner in Swindon or the surrounding area, you’ll usually find two types of business: large operations covering big areas with multiple cleaners, and local independents like me running a single round.
Both can do a good job. But there are a few real differences worth knowing about before you pick.
Based in Swindon, covering Swindon and the surrounding villages.
You Get the Same Person Every Time
With a one-person round, the cleaner who quotes you is the cleaner who shows up. Every visit. I learn your property, I know which window has the awkward latch, I know which gate sticks, I know your dog’s name. I know to text before I come if you’ve got a baby napping or someone working from home.
With larger operations, the person on your windows can change visit to visit. That’s not their fault, it’s just how the staffing works. But it means the relationship resets each time, and you’re explaining the awkward bits all over again.
“Jack has cleaned my parents’ windows several times now and they are hugely impressed. Reliable, thorough and efficient, helpful and friendly. Highly recommend.”
I’m Jack. I run the round, do the cleans, and answer the messages.
The Work Stays Consistent
When the same person cleans your windows every eight weeks, the standard stays consistent. I know what your windows looked like last time. I notice if a frame’s been touched up or a new pane’s gone in. I know which corners I had to work harder on.
A new cleaner each visit is starting from scratch every time, with no memory of what your property needs.
Consistent work, every visit.

If you message me, I answer. Not a call centre, not a booking system, me. If I’m running late, you’ll hear from me. If the weather changes the schedule, you’ll hear from me. I message every customer across my Swindon round the day before their clean so they know I’m coming.
The flip side is that I’m one person. If I’m ill, I’m not there. Bigger companies can absorb that more easily. In practice, I plan around it and customers very rarely notice, but it’s a real trade-off and worth being honest about.
Local Knowledge
I live and work around here. I know which streets in Old Town have the off-street parking issues, which estates in Wichelstowe have shared paths, which villages like Wroughton, Chiseldon, and Royal Wootton Bassett have private lanes. That’s not a marketing point, it’s just useful when scheduling and turning up.
Accountability
If something goes wrong with a job, you’re talking directly to the person responsible. There’s no escalation, no customer service script, no waiting for an area manager to call back. I sort it. If you’re not happy with a clean, I’ll come back and put it right.
That accountability cuts both ways. I can’t hide behind a company name. My reputation is the business, and word of mouth around Swindon spreads quickly, so I make sure every job’s one I’d be happy to be judged on.
Where Larger Companies Do Make Sense
To be fair: if you’ve got a commercial property with twenty floors, or a national portfolio of sites that all need cleaning to a contract, a larger company is the right call. They’ve got the equipment, the insurance, the scale.
For a house, a flat, or a small commercial unit, an independent is usually the better fit.
The Short Version
A local independent gives you the same person every visit, consistent work, and direct communication. The trade-off is that we’re one person, so there’s no backup if we’re ill. For most homeowners, that trade is worth making.
